Thanks to the Underground and Count Me In Concerts for hosting us last night us along with The Least of These. Cathy, the pre-concert dinner was worth the effort alone! Yowzaa!!!

Here's what Cathy Hill of Count Me In Concerts had to say about the set via Facebook:

"Count Me In Concerts celebrated Chicago-area roots by bringing in two Chicago-area bands for a hometown show at The Underground in Naperville. The western suburbs are home to all of the members of the David Yeager Band, and The Least of These hail from Judson College and the Elgin area. The two bands have solid local followings and are hoping to continue to grow their fan bases. This joint show was a step forward in introducing their music to new audiences.

The David Yeager Band opened the show with "Sound" which allowed Yeager to bring out his violin, one of the standout elements of a DYB set. His improvisational skills add a richness to any of the songs that feature this.
A series of "love songs" followed, emphasizing different kinds of love." "Love Rules" speaks of God's love, "Jill" is a song about a crush, and "Won't Let Go" tells of the unfailing, unconditional love God has for His people. This quiet acoustic song featured a beautiful violin interlude (ok, I admit it: I'm partial to the violin riffs!).
The DYB cover of "40" by U-2 caught the attention of those not familiar with the other songs, and showed the band's ability to make a famous song their own.
The band followed up with "Tom Bombadill," which Yeager called "a song about being a dork." (The title refers to a character from Tolkien's Lord of the Rings trilogy) The crowd fed on the energy of the band; perhaps we all could related to the dork concept! The David Yeager Band wrapped up their set with "Free Time" which featured an awesome violin/bass jam that could have gone on several more minutes as far as I was concerned."

Thanks to Benjie and the crew of Backthird Audio for hosting the DYB for the 2009 Art Walk! On a cold, rainy Fall night it was good to see so many come out. And it was great meeting some new friends as they cycled in throughout the evening to listen. Our only regret was not being able to make the Walk ourselves and see/hear the other offerings.

Backthird Audio’s Songwriters’ Showcase

The DYB has a show coming up on Tuesday, June 2nd at 7PM. We’re performing at Backthird Audio’s Songwriters’ Showcase in downtown Aurora. We were the winner of last month’s showcase, so we’ve been invited back as the Featured Artist.

This is a fantastic venue. We’ll be playing an acoustic set for a small attentive audience (you!) in a friendly atmosphere with great sound. You’ll hear from a variety of local songwriters, then the DYB will take the stage to close out the evening.

A couple things to note:

-The event runs from 7 to 9 pm. We’re playing for the last half-hour (8:30 – 9), but we’d like you to attend the whole thing if you can.

-You may want to sign up ahead of time if you know you’re coming, or at least call ahead. It’s a small venue, and while we’d love to pack it out we’d hate for you to show up & not have a seat.

This means that the rest of the band has been invited to join him for an "unplugged" half-hour featured artist set on June 2 at the Back Third Audio studios. Songwriters' Showcase

5-8 Friday night David played Sound and Testify solo to about 25 people at the comfy studios of Back Third Audio as a part of their Songwriters' Showcase series. Each of the 8 singed-up musicians was given a 10-minute set for two songs. Comment and critique sheets were given to the artists before hand to fill out during the performances to judge each other. The point of the event was for songwriters to encourage and give feedback to each other on a variety of criteria in a laid-back forum and atmosphere. All of the comments are then compiled and tallied and sent back to the artist with the goal of helping in their song writing. The singer with the highest marks from his peers will win a half-hour showcase spot at the end of the next month's event. According to Matt and Steve, David was the CLEAR winner in ALL categories (duh!), but we'll see how it shakes out. Regardless, this was a great exercise and great for David to try out some of his songs on an unsuspecting audience (and the Martin sounded fantastic!).

Thanks to Benjie Hughes for opening his doors as host for this cool opportunity as well as for his on-going support and encouraging spirit toward local musicians.

Design Time

5/6 The album is at the manufacturing plant getting worked over by mastering engineers and graphic designers. Some would say this is the REAL fun part! We're finalizing art and looking through proofs of the various panels of the packaging and extra merchandise associated with it. It's gonna be a great product. Just a few more weeks before the music is released on the world.

You might think that this is a mocked up picture of what heaven looks like. Well, almost. It's just David playing his NEW GUITAR at Make'n Music! At some point he'll have to fill you in on the details of how he decided on the amazing Martin D-41. Just know that we're all very happy (and a touch jealous!) to welcome this new addition into the family. Looking forward to many great songs from these two.

Album update 4-27: The mixing for the debut recording is officially finished! Mastering and design are now in the works. We should have an estimation on delivery in the next week or so.

Live Radio

Steve recently participated in a live radio music program for the Moody Broadcasting program Midday Connection. During the show musicians would sing/perform song requests from listeners. Pictured also is Angie Thomas, Music Director for First Baptist Church of Geneva, IL who also took part.

It's a little known fact that Angie is the one responsible for introducing the members of the DYB to each other (a fact that she frequently reminds us of!) Jon and Steve met when she hired them to play in a back up band in 2006 for a Moody Bible Institute Women's Conference. Matt, David and Steve all met at FBCG. Jon attends Medinah Baptist, but occasionally steps in on bass for FBCG services.

3-30 Fine-tuning

We're at the stage with the recording where we feel like we have captured to hard drive each song pretty closely to the way we hear them in our heads. Mat's mixing/producing contributions have really made these tunes come alive! On a few tracks during mixing, we've noticed some small imperfections. We've chosen to leave many in as they add character and personality, but some really need "adjusting" (Jon really should have waited until after tracking to eat that burrito!). Take It Back should be mixed this week. In the meantime, David and Steve will be concentrating on fine-tuning key spots. Hoping to be completely finished this week.

He did a fantastic job as usual while the rest of the band sat and harassed him while eating pizza on the other side of the glass. Guitars, bass and vocals to finish it off coming this week.

Well...we're all a bit ashamed to say that it's now been OVER A YEAR since we recorded the initial drum tracks for our debut recording.

Many have faithfully continued to ask, "When?", "How's it coming?", "Can I buy a copy yet?", "Is David still using that gas-less push mower?"

The latest word on the status of things is that we're getting VERY close.

This week weez got plans to finish guitars and vocals on Tom Bombadil. We'll also be finishing up some BGs on several others. We're also ready to start compiling final stem tracks on the first of the finished tunes that are ready to be mixed (BIG STEP!). Those tracks will be heading over to our mixer-friend, Mat Prock of Area44 Music. He's agreed to work his magic and get us sounding as good as possible.

Speaking of magic, we've also got the album photo shoot scheduled for this coming Saturday. Photographer Jim Jordan will be attempting to make us look as cool as possible.

We're all getting excited about the songs and seeing everything coming together. Most of all though it's the anticipation of finally letting everyone hear what we've been up to for so long.

The upside about taking our sweet time however, is that in the meantime we've already got a big head start on song writing for recording #2!

Practice Space

Over the course of the last couple of years, we've been fortunate to have some great space in which to rehearse over at Matt's. Of course we'd really love it if he'd move all the furniture out of the BIG media room next door and let us take that over too. Some permanent sleeping quarters would be nice also. Maybe add an additional fridge... Janet wouldn't mind would she? This'll do for now I suppose.

The DYB participated in an outreach Saturday 8-23 at the Riverwalk Amphitheater in Naperville. Thanks to EVERYONE who came by to listen and say hi. It was hot and humid, but we managed to dodge the rain. The event was a success. Special thanks to E.V. Free of Naperville for inviting us to play as well as to the guys who arranged and ran the AMAZING sound system. It's a rare thing to have that level of support. We really appreciated it.

We'll be playing two 25-minute sets starting at 12-noon that will kick off a line up of outreach activities sponsored by the E.V. Free Church of Naperville and the Naperville Presbyterian Church.
